Immunity is important because we live in a dangerous world. Organisms out in the world that represent that represent 4/6 kingdoms of life. Which invade our bodies and live in nice, safe, warm, nutrient-full, moist environment (our bodies) What separates these organisms from invading immune system. Any one of these organisms can be pathogens: viruses influenza (flu, ebola, bacteria (anthrax, tuberculosis, e. coli, fungi (aspergillus, candida, protist (malaria, giardia, animals (helminths, or other worms that can grow to impressive sizes within our bodies) I(cid:374) respo(cid:374)se, the i(cid:373)(cid:373)u(cid:374)e yste(cid:373) is a da(cid:374)gerous thi(cid:374)g . Pathogens are dangerous but immune systems are also dangerous. Immune system release highly reactive chemicals that directly kill invading organisms: hydrogen peroxide h2o2, hclo- (bleach) Pore-forming proteins: lymphocytes, etc. can release pore-forming proteins that blow a hole in the membrane of invading organisms killing organisms rapidly. Antibodies: highly specific effector molecules that recognize molecular patterns of invading molecules to a molecular level.
