What is pathology: pathos = disease or suffering, logos = study, therefore, it is the study of suffering and disease. The study of when things go wrong: prof definition: is the study of the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues, and organs of the body that cause or are caused by disease. Path- the trunk of the tree that connects all branches of science together. The epithelium has changed: take pics of normal and abnormal and sample this area extensively. Light microscopy: find glands of malignant tumors by looking at a histological section - shows adenocarcinoma, tissues are stained pink and purple. Definitions: disease: the pattern of response of living organisms to injury (primarily cellular injury). Many people had the disease and never know: when cells fail to adapt to injury, or the adaptive mechanism itself becomes harmful, disease results. Genetic insults: many diseases in the past were thought to be idiopathic (aka of unknown etiology)
