Infectious pathology is the most common form of organic and cellular disease, but often mild and goes unnoticed. Many infections though are assoc"d with significant tissue dmg or death. Thus infectious disease is still leading cause of death worldwide o. Many infectious microorgs: whether you get an infection depends on the virulence of the invading microorg and also the integrity of host defense mechs. Humoral and cell-mediated immune systems battle infectious orgs. Cell-mediated (t cell): more often w viral infections. Immune system occasionally cause tissue toxicity that lead to illness and disease. Specific symptoms only arise if organism has a predilection for specific organs/tissues: not all microorgs are harmful: normal microflora internally and externally. Some of these are mutualistic, with human host providing nutrition and microorg secreting essential metabolic byproducts (e. g. vit k in gi tract) or keeping more virulent orgs in check.
