The twenty-third lecture starts with racism, which is a denial of rights and dignity to people of different races. Despite a relatively positive valuing in ancient greek societies, homosexuality has been treated as sinful and unnatural in societies dominated by the three main monotheistic religions judaism, christianity, and islam and homosexuals have been persecuted. But gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender persons, and intersex persons today form an identity group, a new social movement joined in solidarity by a shared identity.
