Genome wide linkage analysis: use large samples of affected relative pairs, looks for regions on genome that affected relatives share, narrows the search for genes from the whole genome to specific areas on specific chromosomes. Candidate gene association study: compares a large group of individuals who have a specific trait or disease with a well matched group without a trait or disease. Impossible to replicate: limited in ability to understand abnormal behaviour.
