It is very commonly believed in our society that children are not sexual. He took the view that sexual expression is fundamental for humans, but qualitatively different at different times of development. Few disagree with this concept today, although many now dismiss freud"s ideas of oedipus and electra complexes and such. While freud may have given sex too much of a role, few dispute the view that you have to understand sexual development along with other types of development if you want to understand a person. To some extent, the process is gendered, when girls watch mom and other girls, and boys watch dad and other boys they begin to develop gender role behaviour. This is the beginning of development of gender role behaviour. How affection is modeled in the family is also influential. This teaches children about sexual interactions and how men and women behave towards one another.
