Lawyers look at past precedence, where as sociologists aren"t influenced about what has happened in the past: professional culture: how they conduct themselves, there is also a difference between legal and social science thinking, law or the study of law is more inclined to the particular than to the general. (only what has happened in that case), law unlike the social sciences doesn"t attempt to establish connections between means and ends. A shari"s law can be characterized into five acts: commanded must be followed, recommended, reprobated acts that are disapproved of, acts that are forbidden, acts that are left legally indifferent. The characteristics of formal social control (law) are: explicit rules of conduct, planned use of sanctions to support rules (for people who do not obey, designed officials to interpret and enforce rules (courts/police), dispute settlements (cid:224, law only deals with legal disputes, looks at specific case, not the broader issue (for example, employment discrimination).
