Interval: no natural starting point, ratios not meaningful ex. temperature, 0 doesn"t mean an absence of temperature. Ratio: ratios meaningful, natural zero: discrete: countable # of possible values ex. amount of chickens, continuous: in nite # of possible values ex. height. Measures of centre: mean: average value, sum of individual values (effected by outliers, pulled towards skew, median: midpoint, mode: most common value. Need more data than just these values to determine a difference in something. Measures of spread: variability: range: max minus min, standard deviation: average distance of the values from the mean. = symmetric or asymmetric (mean and median will be the same) Modality: how many humps = unimodal, bimodal, multimodal. Skew: whether or not one tail of the distribution is more spread out than the other.
