Document Summary

Common good: the common good is what is good for the entire political community. Obtaining the common good seems as though it would be favourable for all but determining the common good can be a struggle, seeing that members of a political community have different values and interests. Individualists often resist the goal of the common good because they see it as unrealistic. Democracy is often seen as the form of government that is most likely to peruse the common good. Free rider problem: free rider problem is a problem with voluntary collective action that results because an individual can enjoy the benefits of group action with out contributing. The free rider problem is when someone in a population consumes more than their fair share of common resources, or pays less than their fair share of the cost of a common resource.
