Document Summary

Introspection looking at how you think or feel your visual system works. Cannot explain much about our perceptual systems work mainly due to that most of the processes occur in the unconsciousness. Physics: helps us to understand the physical nature of the stimuli. Anatomy and physiology: help us understand the sense organs and the parts of the nervous system that process sensory data. Psychology: helps us understand perceptual abilities, (cid:862)psy(cid:272)hophysi(cid:272)s(cid:863) the s(cid:272)ie(cid:374)tifi(cid:272) study of per(cid:272)eptual respo(cid:374)ses to physi(cid:272)al sti(cid:373)uli. How features of the environment are represented by neurons. Figure out what does this one neuron respond to: neuroimaging allows a scientist to specify not just one neuron at a time but more broadly, the areas of brain activity that are used for different perceptual tasks. Rely on changes in blood flow in different parts of brain that accompany neural activity in those brain areas: lesion technique. Destroying a portion of the nervous system then measuring associated changes in perceptual function.
