Document Summary

In interpreting the story, they are trying to rediscover the pride in being dalit and indigenous. When answering who are we, we are introduced to reshmi and moumita. Reshmi is a rural indigenous woman from the gond tribe. She identifies herself as being from the forests or rural central india. However, her tribal territories are under threat rom modern development projects, especially destruction of forests for industrialization and construction of dams. She shares her personal experience of her tribe being called backward, illiterate [and] primitive. She now wants to share her rich gond culture and their knowledge of sustainable development. When moumita reveals that she is a dalit. Reshmi is surprised and claims that moumita doesn"t look like a dalit. This is an indication that dalits are different from others and have to look or behave a certain way. Moumita does not seem offended rather is willing to educate reshmi on the topic.
