Document Summary

Increase in complexity of vascular systems in terms of the nature of the transport process: in ferns [pteridophyta] you see a couple of different types of themes that exist. One of the themes is how they produce their spores. Another aspect thats related to the ferns is associated with the presence of spores that exist in the form of sporangia within the spora. With the sterile there is no spore released and the fertile ones have a sorus which is a grouping of spores inside the sporangia. Complexity is spore > sporangia > sori: subdivision within the ferns relating on how the spores actually developed. The 2 subdivisions are the leptsporangia - developmental patterning and eusporangia- simple > single apical initial; complex > multiple initials: has to do with developmental pattering. Has to do with cells inside the plant having different functions in terms of roles each cell plays in order to create a developmental pattern.
