Document Summary

The main focus of this lab is obtaining skills to work with total station instrument and obtaining point fields in a local 3-d coordinate frame from a station to a direction. To begin the lab each student was familiarized how to work with the total station and then a convenient reference station was chosen to set up the instrument along with a reference starting point for the reference direction. The height of the instrument was also measured. To start the data measurements the reference point was aimed and its horizontal angle was set to zero, then the telescope was reversed and oriented again to obtain the correct starting point. The final step was to reverse the telescope and starting at the reference start point re-orienting the instrument until it"s at the correct direction to restart the observations. Total stations are optical device that are used to measure distances or measure an area.
