Public health and primary care: struggling to win. One of the main reasons to why public health doesn"t receive a lot of attention is that when its going well, people don"t seem to notice. Moreover, although it being far more important to educate a population on prevention and the risk factors associated with different illnesses, a large handful of funding goes directly to curative care (p. 65). In the same way, people are more captivated to hear new medicine being made to treat the sick or even a new disease identified rather than the great efficiency of a public healthcare system informing citizens. Mckenna argue that this is because when new medicine is discovered, it is an immediate response to treating the ill, however, putting funding for health programs to prevent an epidemic crisis is an endowment for the future.
