Lecture 1, introduction to myth in ancient greece. Classical studies: the shorthand commonly used to refer to the era of greeks and romans. The parthenon: was the perfect temple built for the greek goddess athena. What alexander the great left behind was the language of greek. A polis is a city state, or political unit of a section: there were many poleis in ancient greece, and they each considered themselves an individual place. What they shared however was the language of greek. We are aware of all of these ndings because of archeological evidence: things such as buildings, inscriptions, bones and such. Greek culture had made its way to italy a lot. The elite of the day was that rich people would have sculptures. If you were intelligent, you would know greek and latin. The ancient greek world contained way more than the contemporary greece today. There were much more islands part of greece.
