System analysis: process of understanding and specifying what an information system should accomplish. System design: process to define and describe in detail how the information system should be implemented to provide the desired solution. Information system: set of interrelated components that collects, processes, stores, and provides as output the information needed to complete business tasks. Transaction processing system (tps): capture and record info about transactions that affect the organization. Management information system (mis): take info captured by the tps and produce reports needed for planning and controlling business. Decision support systems (dss): support human decision-making and allows users to explore potential impact of available options or decisions (e. g. can ask what if) Executive information systems (eis): provide information for executives to use in strategic planning. Tps/workers(lowest) mis/middle managers dss/senior managers eis/executives. Systems analyst: person who uses analysis and design techniques to solve business problems using it. Project: planned undertaking that has a beginning and end that produces some definite result.
