Document Summary

3 sets of salivary glands are innervated by autonomic nervous system through the parasympathetic side of it. Biggest one is on outside of mouth just in front of ear. It comes down almost to angle of mandible. Susceptible to mumps virus causing the capsule to expand which causes discomfort. Produces saliva, duct or tube takes saliva made, comes across masseter, eventually empty into top part of mouth from second upper molar. If opening for parotid duct is inflamed you may have mumps. Is outside mouth so must go through cheek muscle. Is exocrine gland due to duct or tube taking material away and depositing it elsewhere. Submandibular gland is 2nd largest located under angle of mandible. Travels across the floor of the mouth and empties saliva into floor of mouth. Saliva enzymes help break down and lubricate bolus. Back angle of mandible is where submandibular gland is. Underneath tongue on either side is sublingual gland.
