Acc = anthropogenic climate change. what we are doing to change climate (forcing) through emission of ghg"s (greenhouse gases). Experts and public: the acc inverts normal relation of experts- public. But with acc- anxiety because finding that climate far less stable than thought (through positive feedback, not just negative). Some assumptions about it regarding discount rates for future generations. The notion of economic discounting: in future the sci tech progress continues, people will have more power to deal with acc, more cheaply. so put off action. Climate determinism. the nature of projecting the future- ceteris paribus: all other things being equal. Greenhouse gases: not just co2; also methane, h2o vapour, hfcs. Geophysics: interdisciplinary; complex, unlike high school science; hard to falsify or have single decisive experiment. Negative: inputs depended on (desired) state of system. Positive: inputs depended on other inputs not state. State or phase changes: ice to water.
