1. Sketch a helium atom, and label all parts.

2. Sketch a hydrogen atom whose electron is absorbing a photon and jumping 2 levels.
3. Describe why a red paper appears red.

Dye molecules, electrons jump from lower to higher levels
Surface color, reflects back to our eye
Red dye pigment reflect red wavelength, absorbs blue & green
4. Describe what happens when blue and yellow paint are mixed. What is the resulting
colour?
Green, value goes down, less saturated, blue & yellow absorbs/reflects certain
wavelengths
Height at curve, lower = lower value
Wider = less saturated
Lower the value (straight line on bottom) BLACK is the result
No wavelength’s in common in mixture
Resulting mixture = black
Deep blue & deep red = black
Full leaf color
Chlorophyll creates energy, gets stored in winter
Color changes from green to red keratin gives yellow
