Hobbes" method: learning how something works by breaking it down and building it up again. This is seen in works by william harvey. Resolution is the analysis of complex wholes into single elements. Composition is putting things back together again. He builds up his theory, he doesn"t give us arguments. He thinks everything follows from the first thing he says.
