Document Summary

This idea came from brain dysfunction / damage leads violent behaviour to be exhibited by people by people. The reason the people being charged with either manslaughter / murder were being scanned was because apparently they could not understand how a jury works. This would then provide physical evidence that they had a diminished capacity which would prove their incompetence to be under a trial. The study looked at people charged with murder. These violent criminals were pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. More importantly raine wanted to see if there were brain differences that might be connected to their aggressive behaviour. He and his team used pet scanning to look for differences between them (consisted of those with many different types of mental illnesses) and a control group. The study used 41 controls & 41 murderers pleading not guilty for reason of insanity. In total (41+41= 82) eighty two people were involved in being scanned.
