Light enters the eye through the cornea which bends the light to provide focus. The iris is a small muscle around the pupil that contracts as light enters and responds to the intensity of light dilates in darkness and contracts in brightness. Iris also responds to emotional states, when you say no or are disgusted the iris contracts. The lens focuses the light rays into an image in a process called accommodation on the retina.
