One of four distinct approaches to explaining things and providing a foundation for strongly held beliefs. Important to note that the scientific method is not one single fixed empirical method. It embraces many empirical methods and techniques. Developed by charles sanders peirce (pronounced purse ) A formulaic way of thinking and believing. Scientific method, method of tenacity, method of authority and a priori method. Clinging onto an idea merely because it has been around for a while. Tenaciously clinging to fixed beliefs; not easy to shake these fixed beliefs or to open closed minds. Ideas such as the earth being the centre of the universe prevailed for centuries; still ideas of the earth being flat, sunrise and sunset being an optical illusion, and the moon landing being a hoax still prevail.
