Document Summary

Short answers: provide examples of concepts from the fields involved in the biopsychosocial perspective. Identity a composite of how people view themselves in the bio, psycho, and social domains of life. Interaction of these form an overall view of self. Individuality as people age, they become more different from each other. Because it views development as a complex interaction of many factors, good b/c aging is not a straightforward progression through time. B/c growing older doesn"t mean growing sicker. Healthcare ppl need to recognize + treat the onset of a disease vs. dismissing it as something that just happens as you get older. 80 yr old man can be treated for depression if clinician doesn"t brush it off as an aging symptom. Advantage easier to make age-related laws and restrictions. It uses a commonly understood standard: calendar time. Social meaning attached to chronological age outweighs any intrinsic usefulness. More useful and telling of a person is functional age.
