Define islamaphobia: the fear of the perception of islam, islamic culture, beliefs, religion, appearance. What contributes to islamaphobia: and their people. (ex. // niqab-phobia,veil-phobia, beard-phobia, turban-phobia) Lack of education: on the religion, the people, the culture, the beliefs. Lack of knowledge: not knowing or willing to learn about islam and their beliefs. Misrepresentation by media: in news, tv shows (lack of representation), movies, ads, books. Modernity (or lack thereof) rejecting the west and modern ideologies. Muslim women in west: tendency to represent muslim women as the passive victims of oppressive cultures" and as the embodiment of a repressive and fundamentalist" religion". Veil: to display self identity, as a form of protection & belonging, to condemn deviant behaviour (like male gaze, desires & objectification) & also as self control for the women & their desires. No veil: wishes to not be associated with such a violent group, empowerment.
