Impact on violence: plays an important role in the economic system of society. Body ideals change historically and cross-culturally, and are affected by class. The current dominant western ideal for women is based on a youthful, thin body with no flaws, while men"s is based on strength and well developed or cut musculature, strength, action and even aggressiveness. These ideals are also white, or close to white/caucasian in skin colour and features, able bodied, young, and supposedly heterosexual. The view that women are more concerned with their body image is supported by: the prevalence of dieting among women. Weight concerns and dieting are so common as to be normative. A majority of girls and women who are dieting are of normal weight: eating disorders are more common in women than in men. About 90% or anorexics are women; bulimia shows a similar gender inequity.
