Main idea: law isnt as fair as it says it is. Definition: the process of becoming invisible /the process by which laws make individuals invisible and marginalized. The safe streets act law affects society because the absence of panhandlers & squeegee workers means people in society will disregard how people can become destitute. Removal of this activity allows economically privileged people to believe that society is functioning well. Believing that society is prospering ignores reality and prevents further action from occuring. Example: moshers article speaks of squeegee workers and welfare recipients deemed as threats to public safety and order. this resulting in creation of bylaws to criminalize these individuals. Them and their plight of poverty rendered invisible. Definition: disciplinary power is when citizens or members of a society internalize the views of their society which becomes a mean of self regulation. This diffuses power and changes it from a top down system to a system that works in multiple directions.
