39 views3 pages

Document Summary

The theme childhood and disability seemed intriguing because the disease is so common, about one billion people in the world face some sort of disability and one in ten of them happened to be children! I myself happen to be a child who had faced developmental disability which continued on to my adulthood. Not only does this give me an opportunity to get a better understanding but it lets me relate to my daily struggles and challenges. The theoretical models that will be explored in this essay are: the medical model and the social model. The medical models perspective on disability is that the problem links directly with the individual (child) and it is caused through a disease, trauma or other health conditions. The disability causes the child to have a disadvantage because they don"t get to have the same quality of life a normal child would have.
