Everyone is assigned to different social categories. Sociology is the systematic study of society as a whole. Two perspectives: seeing the general in the particular, seeing the strange in the familiar. Handholding; manifestation of gender inequality in society. Mans hand on top is a gender norm. Familiar; choice of marriage partner/university to go to (individual choice). Theory: testable statements about how facts are interrelated. Theoretical paradigm: an image of society (body, battleground, game). Structural functional / conflict / symbolic interactionism. Scientific, would bring about positive change to society. industry just becoming predominant form of production. Social integration in the middle of demographics and suicide rates. Single and protestant more likely to commit suicide. C. wright mills: sociological imagination, certain quality of mind. ; understanding what is going on in society and with us subjectively as members of society. Sociology teaches us that the social world guides all our life choices. Sociology is the systematic study of human society.
