When its looking at political and economic thought, its questioning some of the basic assumptions. The democratic revolution was articulated by the social contract theory. When it emerged it was some sense a theory of society. We come to this kind of agreement to achieve goals. Rousseau says the purpose of society is liberty. He is the most democratic social contract theorist. In contract theory there are: hobbes, locke, rousseau. Some say the theory ends with rousseau.
