Understanding the purpose of utopian fantasy writing is essential so this guide provides some background information: you may find some aspects of the novel disturbing and challenging. Utopian: an imaginative model of an ideal society, which can be an impossible fantasy or a possible future worth struggling towards. Main purposes are to offer a critique of existing society and to offer a vision of the future. This was first seen in thomas more"s utopia 1516. Dystopian: imaginative model of an extreme and negative society, used to critique current systems of power and to warn about what society could become. (eg. huxley"s brave new world, orwell"s 1984).
