Document Summary

Social issue: the rising tuition fees in canada may not all be a bad thing, but a good thing too. High tuition has benefits that are unseen by many. Yes according to hepburn: when tuition is substantial, universities are reminded of the importance of their students, and pay more attention to student concerns and teaching performance of faculty (p. 3). According to hepburn, less than half of students have government loans when they graduate, and only 7-8 percent have trouble repaying their loans long term. 25 percent of borrowers repay their loans within two years (p. 2). The author claims that even though the tuition fees are high, students can easily pay it back. Also, the high tuition fees can make students study harder. It acts as somewhat a motivational factor to get one"s money"s worth.
