Document Summary

Stored energy, or energy resulting from position (ex. height). Energy can only be transferred from one form to another. Transformation of energy is only 100% if all of the energy in one form gets transferred to the other form. For example, when your car converts fuel energy to motion, it is only about 30% ef cient. Much of the fuel energy is converted to heat (from friction of moving parts) and this dissipates to the environment. A source of energy that is replenished naturally on a regular basis (i. e. , daily). Alternatively, you can think of it as being replenished at a faster rate than it is consumed. A source of energy that is limited, and is being consumed at a rate that is much faster than it takes to form. Examples: petroleum/oil (source of gasoline), natural gas, coal and uranium (source of nuclear energy) In the u. s. , 90% of our energy still comes from nonrenewable energy sources.
