This source uses Tolkien’s Letters as a source to discuss Tolkien’s appreciation for the nature of
trees. It also relates information regarding the trees in the book to the values of Tolkien. This
source specifically addresses Ents, Old Man Willow, and the trees of Fangorn Forest including
Treebeard. Certain sections of this selection are relevant to my theme of the role of trees in The
Lord of the Rings because the connections made between Tolkien’s beliefs and the characteristics
of the trees will help develop my discussion on Tolkien’s appreciation for nature.Also, this
