In Module 5, we turn to the Atlantic World in the 17th and 18th centuries:
1- Read The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, chapters 1-14
• Talks abot being kidnapped
• Torn form his sister
• Travel through Africa
• Sees sister again and then torn apart again
• Gets ot eh coast, put onboard a ship, thought he was going to be killed
2- From Sources in World Society:
Chapter 19:
19-4: From Narrative of Two Voyages to the River Sierra Leone, 1794
• Is an abolitionist at first then onboard a slave ship she says it isn’t that bad
• Says slaves are treated very well
19-6: Transportation of Slaves in Africa, 1800-1900
• Painting of the salve trade
• Looks like hey just got off the boat
• One personon the left hand side is about to be killed by a slaver
• Slaves are held together so they cannot escape
• Slavers intimidating them with hatchet and rifle
• Shows the brutality of the slave trade
• No whites in the painting
o Shows how the slaves were pitted against each other by the whites in power
