Prevalence rate : # of total (new & old) cases / time (information for action/applied epidemiology) Passive surveillance : (sit at desk) collect data. Active surveillance : (get up & do!) search for cases, surveys, field investigations (ie- west nile virus, check dead birds) Ro (not) / reproductive rate: # people that one sick person will infect on average (different for each disease)
