A cell is a highly organized compartment that: All organisms are made of cells (pattern/what is observed) All cells come from pre-existing cells (process/why it happens) This theory states that because all cells came from pre-existing cells, all individuals in a population of single celled organisms are related by common ancestry. Charles darwin and alfred russel wallace in 1858. Argued all species are related by common ancestry. Descent with modification-characteristics of species can by modified from generation to generation. Evolution (pattern) is the change in the characteristics of a population over time. Natural selection is the process for how evolution occurs. Population is a group of individuals of the same species living in the same area at the same time.
