Moving  ▯Kinetic (driving) Not Moving  ▯Potential (Battery) Radiative  ▯Cell phone energy  Vocal Chords  ▯Kinetic Earth moves as it orbits the sun, what affects Earth’s Kinetic energy? ­Earth’s math and speed ­Kinteic Energy = ½  v ­m = mass (kg), v = speed (m/s) Kinetic Energy: (KE) • Macroscopic objects o Planet orbiting object o Car driving on road o Ball Bouncing 2 o KE = .5 m v • Microscopic objects o Atoms and molecules o Thermal energy of an object is the total kinetic energy of all the atoms and  molecules it contains.  Thermal Energy and Temperature: • Related, but NOT same thing • Thermal energy = Total kinetic energy of atoms • Temperature measures AVG kinetic energy of atoms • Example= 400º oven and 212ºF pot of water • Atoms in hot objects move faster than atoms in cold • Atoms in the air typically move at the speed of sound. (300 m/s) Potential Energy:  • Gravitational potential energy o Rock at edge of cliff • Chemical Potential Energy  WEEK FIVE: ENERGY 2 o Battery • Electrical PE • Mass PE Gravitational:  • Possessed by every object that is affected by gravit
