Study of the function of the organ systems. Study of all of the cells: epithelial, neurons, connective, muscle. Organ system= collective of organs which function together has organs that are connected to each other. Fluid compartments: body is divided into 3 compartments defined by where the fluid is located (figure 1. 3: 1st compartment: within the blood. Cells (red & white) and fluid (plasma or serum) Least amount of fluid in the body is in the blood: 2nd compartment: intracellular fluid: within the cells. Has the most fluid in the body: 3rd compartment: interstitial fluid: interstitium not in the blood system and not in the cell, osmolarity: solute concentration. Can cause a lot of problems in the body. Water moves by osmosis into the blood. When theres a high osmolarity, the plasma volume increases closed circulatory system; all of the blood is self-contained in vessels.
