Study guide - ir midterm i, fall 2018. Definition: the process of increasing interconnectedness among societies such that events in one part of the world affects other parts of the world more. Pace of economic transformation has created a new form of world politics: health improves and poverty declines. People have much to lose as world becomes globalized: not all globalizing forces are good, excessive nationalism and extremism. Definition: a more inclusive term for international relations as it includes more than just states. Key connects: cold war institutions may not be able to handle/survive global politics movement. Simple way of looking at theories and diplomacy cannot prevent future wars treaties, alliance, and diplomacy. Assumptions of realism: no legitimate central authority stands above the state. Definition: power and surpassing any rules to get what nations want and nations are basically reflections of the people that make up those nations (e. g. greed) Overarching theme of human nature & morality.
