Personality tests: reliability- do you get the same results again and again, tests retest- should have similar results, split half- do you get same score on first half on the second half. Took people from mental hospital and people who were similar to those people like siblings and tried to find consistent ways of determining who has what mental illness. Empirical basis: has questions about literally everything. Now just called scales as opposed to clinical scales. It"s all based on people in minnesota in 1940s: not very reliable- 50% of college students will have a different score in two weeks, also, doesn"t have validity. Can"t diagnose schizophrenia even though it"s the easiest things to diagnose: internal validity doesn"t have to do with sense of being a valid measure, despite lack of validity and reliability it"s still the most widely used test ix.
