Trickster god who keeps utnapishtim from dying in the flood by telling him that it is coming. Responsible for human attributes including cleverness, inventiveness, & creativity which allow humans to survive independently. The people ask the gods for someone to stop gilgamesh. 1/3 man & 2/3 beast which mirrors gilgamesh who is 1/3 man: enkidu. Equal to gilgamesh: enlil king of the gods, gilgamesh (king/tyrant of uruk) Part god (mother was a goddess): very physical, immortal, strong, etc. Thinks everyone is beneath him & forcibly takes other people"s wives. Cocky, selfish, but after enkidu dies, he becomes a wise and admired ruler. Has nothing in his way except other gods. Called the bull of heaven masculine, power, and violence: huwawa monster who guards the cedar in the forest, ishtar (goddess) Love, fertility, sex, agriculture, nurturance, domesticity, & war (dance of ishtar) Adventurous, loves being naked, admires wild animals.
