Chapters 12-50 moves from humanity to stories about the men and their families. There is only one god, confirmed by israelites. Creates order; puts everything into order in the course of six days loving (unlike other gods); distinctive and unique. Adam and eve"s first sin is disobedience. Different strands of genesis do not necessarily match up. Other creation texts at the time with similar ideas floating around in the middle east. Origin story; not about the people"s heroic origin, its more simpler and straightforward. God creates the earth, seas, day, and night, grass, plants, trees, living creatures, eventually creates humans. God plants the garden of eden and puts the humans there; tells them if they eat from the tree of knowledge they are doomed to die.
