Ways people who are lgbt experience oppression our society: Connection between homophobia and sexism discussed by pharr: Gay and lesbian relationships do not follow traditional gender roles. Suggesting male dominance of women is not necessary and/or natural. Men particularly see it as a threat to their masculinity and power. Doma and general differences in state laws regarding lgbt rights: 8 levels of attitude towards gay and lesbian relationships: Tolerance; just a phase, less mature than heterosexuals. Gays should not be in positions of power because they are still immature. Acceptance: "that is fine as long as you don"t flaunt it" Support: words to safeguard the rights of gays and lesbians because they see the treatment of them as unfair, even if they are uncomfortable themselves. Admiration: acknowledges that being gay/lesbian in our society takes strength. Appreciation: value the diversity of people and see gays as a valid part of diversity. Nurturing:assume that gay/lesbian people are indispensable in our society.
