Geol 1010 - chapter 1 lecture: intro to science and earth"s foundation. Science: one way to trying to understand the world around us: based around facts and principles. Facts: something you can repeatedly prove to be true. Principles: something that used to be a fact but is now known to always be true. Not the only way to help us try to understand the world around us: we can use. All are different points of view of the same subject: the world. Mostly will use the science pov in the course. Scientific method: definition: process used to try and understand things, has various steps. Hypothesis: educated guess: it"s a starting point. Ask: does it pass the if then test: example: if i find three facts, i know my hypothesis is incorrect , if you can"t think of a way to test it, you must think of a new hypothesis. Most of the time, your hypothesis will be wrong.
