Motivation 03/02/2014 o Work Motivation: Overview ⇒ Set of energetic forces that originate within and beyond an individual. (Incentives) ⇒ Outcomes: There is no debate.  Types: ⇒  Extrinsic Motivation: Influenced by external factors.  • When it is continuous, it works. As soon as its gone, the behavior stops.  Intrinsic Motivation: Comes from within the individual. o Theories of Motivation ⇒ Need for achievement­Very Intrinsic  An individual’s desire for accomplishments, effort for mastery, and high standards.   Implications:  • Performance­high  • G­high • If you want it, you have to spend money for selection. Cannot train it. Goal Setting Theory ⇒  Set SMART goals  Specific­Cant just be “I want do better” must be specific “I want a 3.8 gpa”.  Measurable­Must be able to know if you’re making progress  Arduous­Difficult. Cant be easy.   Realistic­Too easy to let go when too hard  Time based­Give yourself a deadline. How long will it take to get to that goal.  Wh
