Volcano- a mountain produced by the accumulation of molten rock erupted from the earth. Magma molten rock beneath the earth"s surface, where it contains dissolved gases: the main constituent is sio2 (silica, flow of magma- the rate of flow is controlled by the amount of silica present. The more silica, the slower the magma flows. Lava molten rock on the earth"s surface, after the gases have escaped. Viscosity = a quantity that measures the resistance to flow. The higher the viscosity, the slower the rate of flow: gases in magma. Gas composition: mostly h2o (water vapor, some co2 (carbon dioxide, trace: Products of eruption: pyroclastic: volcanic ash, volcanic bomb, volcanic block. Fast-moving cloud of extremely hot ash (~750 c) travelling with great speed. Pyroclastic flows also known as nue ardente , i. e. , burning cloud: lahar (mud and debris flows) Upper deposit: block and ash flow (effusive) Lower deposit: pyroclastic (explosive) finer particles and pumice.
