A. Wernicke's Area
1. is the region of the brain that is important for language development
2. usually located in the back part of the temporal lobe
B. Broca's area
1. Responsible for producing language and language comprehension
2. is located in the lower portion of the left frontal lobe
Language is mediated by the left hemisphere in most adults.
III. Sensory and Motor Areas
A. The primary motor and somatosensory control areas lie on either side of the
central sulcus.
B. interacts with structures such as the cerebellum, basal ganglia and red nucleus to
control motor function.
IV. Major Pathways
A. Corpus Callosum
1. connects the two hemispheres (right & left)
