Document Summary

Task analysis is the process of breaking down a task into smaller units and then sequencing these units in an order of priority based on their importance in performing the job. A validation process confirms that the competencies identified for training are actually used on the job. This information allows the practice or clinical instructor to plan lessons aimed at developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that significantly affect successful job performance. (carnevale, et. al. , 1990) Each task has a definite beginning and ending point and usually consists of two or more distinct steps, which comprise a set pattern of operations. A task, either alone or together with other tasks, may be used to achieve a goal: two or more steps make up a task. A single step would not result in a product, service, or decision. Every task has seven elements: performer is the person completing the task.
