Document Summary

Meteorology- study of the atmosphere and its phenomena. Weather- state of the atmosphere at a given time (temp, winds, humidity, pressure) Average condition over a long time period (usually looked at over a 30 year period) National weather service (which is sponsored by noaa) Radiosonde (can be attached to a weather balloon) Air is a mixture of gases and particles. When water evaporates, it increases in elevation and cools off and becomes a cloud by the process of condensation. Hot air rises because the surrounding air is colder, clouds stop growing when the air becomes the same temperature as the surrounding air. Clouds get heavier when there are many large water molecules, they precipitate on the surface. Clouds are only in the troposphere because they act as a lid. Oxygen is primarily provided by plants using photosynthesis. Permanent gases- abundant gases that do not fluctuate. Variable gases- they tend to fluctuate and are smaller in composition.
